A Tribute To Mrs. Organ

Posted 01/13/2017

Shirley Organ, a beloved member of the Greenlee Elementary staff and a legend in the Greenlee community passed awayMrs. Organ on January 12th, 2017. Mrs. Organ was battling stage four pancreatic cancer for the past few months and throughout her fight she continued to put students and families at the top of her priorities by going to Greenlee every day to support the community.

Mrs. Organ began working in DPS 31 years ago where she started working as a para educator. She then began teaching 5th grade at Greenlee Elementary in 1992 and continued to work at Greenlee for the remainder of her education career and long after retirement. She has raised four children, grandchildren, and great children that currently attend Greenlee Elementary.

Shirley Organ maintained a very active lifestyle where she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Rotary Club, Square Dancing, and so much more. In December Greenlee held an Honor Night to show appreciation for Mrs. Organ and her dedication to the community. Close to 200 people attended the event from family, current and past students, parents, principals from Greenlee that she had worked for, teachers and staff.

The number of students and families that Mrs. Organ has impacted is immeasurable. She was a beautiful, strong, intelligent woman that brought warmth to everyone’s heart. Mrs. Organ has always been so much more than a teacher, a staff, a mother, and a grandmother; she has and always will be in the heart of our students, families and the community at Greenlee Elementary.

Shirley is survived by her five children Bob, Bill, Becky, Carol, Connie, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. For additional information regarding services for Mrs. Organ please visit
